I have always thought Earl gets a lot of unnecessary hype. Being the youngest member of Odd Future and the most mysterious really vaulted his career. On top of all that, he was arguably the best lyricist of the group but I have been cautiously skeptical of his solo work simply because I didn’t know if my respect for him was clouded by Odd Future hype. He put all of that to rest with this album and I have seen him referred to as the 2018 MF Doom which actually feels kind of accurate. He has all the things one wants from a rapper; a good flow, interesting voice and cool beats all the while acting as if he is just a bit too cool. I don’t know, I might never return to this album but I listened to it 4 or 5 times the week it came out and I enjoyed it a little bit more after each listen.
