27. Andrew Jackson Jihad – Christmas Island

Andrew Jackson Jihad- Christmas Island

It truly amazes me the genre of folk punk has not blown up more. It really feels like something Pitchfork would love, with its raw production style yet accessible lyrics and rhythms. Andrew Jackson Jihad are doing their best to keep the genre on the map though and with their latest album, Christmas Island, they do a wonderful job of touching on topics from politics, vulgar humor and the all mighty topic of sadness. Putting that all together with the quick paced, folk driven punk music makes for a fun yet poignant album full of witty insight to human society. Having moshed about at an Andrew Jackson Jihad show only a year previously, I understood how easily the songs would translate into incredible live experiences and I appreciated what they were doing all the more. The sharp wit of the band fits with the mixture of genres and adding that to a moshing atmosphere changed my perspective on the band for the better and made this album all the more enjoyable for me. Folk and punk were just made for each other.
