Phosphorescent- Pitchfork Music Festival, Union Park, Chicago, July, 2013

What I thought would just be a filler band between two punk/hard rock bands turned into something a whole lot more. From what I vaguely knew about the band was that it was softish, and not really my thing. But of the three songs we saw before we rushed over to Parquet Courts were fairly piano driven and fun. The way the stage was set up had two different piano players facing each other on each end of the stage. It was as if they were in a face off and they traded riffs and solos and even parts to songs the entire time I was watching and it added quite the element of intrigue to a performance that certainty needed it. The rest of the music and band was fairly generic hipster music, but with those piano battles, I really got into one song with the fast pace and quick melody, it really got in my bones and I was almost sad to go.
