Honorable Mention: Black Radio- Robert Glasper Experiment

Image

There were some albums this year where all I wanted to do was sit down and chill, there were some albums this year that were so full of emotion and soul I just wanted learn every lyric just so I could sing along and then there were just some albums that were made to be beautiful. Black Radio really encompasses all of those things. Not to the fullest extent in each category, but enough of all three to really create an enjoyable atmosphere while listening to it. There’s lots of jazz piano equalized well with hip-hop beats and the mild vocals balanced with rappers like Mos Def and Lupe Fiasco. It’s a soulful album that ends with a cover of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” auto tuned like crazy. It is so hilariously awesome that it actually works. The track rounds out a great album with a great cover and really makes it all come together.
