23. The Parallax II: Future Sequence- Between the Buried and Me

Image

An hour and fifteen minutes of Between the Buried and Me you say?  Twelve whole tracks of pure energy and madness you say? All released this year, the year of my coming out as a metal head? Well. Let me put it this way, The Parallax II: Future Sequence came out at the perfect time for me to appreciate it to its fullest. Colors is the only BTBAM album I have given a fair enough chance, until this album. And now 2013 will be dedicated to going back and listening to the rest of their albums. The Parallax II: Future Sequence has the perfect amount of thrash and death metal, complete with the gravelliest, most raw screaming and the triple and quadruple bass drum hits. I am sure Blake Richardson (the drummer) has bigger forearms than the Hulk due to the insane drumming he is capable of. What makes this album click for me, just like Colors did, is the contrast between the loud, ridiculous metal and the slow points, full of interesting instruments like the tuba and synth solos. The transitions are so fast and seamless, I have no idea where one song ends and another begins. It’s a kind of beauty I never fully appreciated before this year, and BTBAM are ridiculously stunning at making the change from a soulful singing to pure rage screaming. If there is one thing I learned this year, it is that beauty can be found in any kind of music, especially metal.
