When you think of southern rap, you think of Outkast, Cee-Lo Green and Lil Wayne. Well that is about to change with the emergence of Big K.R.I.T., a soulful, insightful rapper straight from Mississippi. He’s been around since 2005, but with Return of 4Eva, he has placed his hat in the ring for one of the best rappers in the game. His flow is smooth, the production he uses is big and jazzy and he goes H.A.M. with his over all presence on his album. He has been featured with some big artists, like the Roots and his view on life is pretty relevant and aware. He raps about racism and its affect on this nation on “Another Naïve Individual Glorifying Greed & Encouraging Racism.” There is so much rap out there these days, to distinguish if an album or rapper is good or not, I look at the production and I look at the content of the raps. K.R.I.T. gets top marks in both categories and for that reason Return of 4Eva is one of my albums of the year.
